Best Time to Apply to Singapore Universities for International Students

30 July 2025

Singapore studies have been an excellent experience for the students of the world, and particularly for Indian students in pursuit of first-rate education, security, and multiculturalism. However, one of the most significant parts of studying plans is knowing about Singapore’s system of intake. Selecting the proper intake allows you to organize the application process, get documents on time, and settle abroad more smoothly.

At BCES Admissions Abroad, we receive questions such as “When should I apply to Singapore universities?” or “Does Singapore have a January intake?” This article will assist in obtaining responses to such questions and lead you through making the right time choice when applying.

Understanding the Intake System in Singapore

Unlike the nations with a rigid two-semester schedule, Singapore has several intakes based on the institution and type of study. Flexible intakes all year round are common for most Singaporean private institutions, whereas their public universities have set intakes.

Main Intakes for International Students in Singapore

February or March Intake

This is a regular intake for students completing their 12th or graduation in advance and who do not wish to spend too much time waiting. Some private colleges and some universities have courses starting in February or March. It is ideal for diploma, advanced diploma, and some postgraduate or undergraduate programs.

This is regarded as the main intake of most public universities such as the National University of Singapore (NUS), Nanyang Technological University (NTU), and Singapore Management University (SMU). Applications are normally done between January and March. Students who wish to study a degree or master’s course in public universities should opt for this intake.

October or November Intake

Private institutions also offer a third intake in the latter half of the year. It is convenient for those who missed the previous intakes and prefer not to have a long hiatus in their studies. Business, IT, hospitality, and engineering programs are usually available for the third intake.

Which Intake to Take?

  • If you are thinking of enrolling in public universities, take either the July or August intake.
  • If you require greater flexibility with various alternatives, private colleges provide intakes in February, July, and October.
  • If you’re a fresh pass-out or got your results late, don’t worry, you can still apply for upcoming intakes provided by private colleges.

Application Timeline Tips

  • Plan 6–8 months prior to the intake
  • Put in the application at least 3–4 months early so that there are no delays in visa and accommodation
  • Have your academic documents, IELTS or PTE score, passport, and SOP readily available

Recent Update

By 2025, all the Singapore private schools like Kaplan, PSB Academy, and MDIS have now promised intakes every 2–3 months, which are more convenient for foreign students to accept as and when they prefer. However, public university intakes are still once a year only.
